(Annoor) 24 : 11

Indeed, those who came with the gossip are a group among you; you don’t think it is bad for you, rather it is good for you. For every person among them have what he has earned from the sin; and he who took himself the greater portion from them, for him has a great punishment.

The particular incident referred to in this verse is about the Banu Mustaliq expedition which happened during the 5th Hijra. Ayisha, the wife of Messenger, was too with the Messenger and followers. While returning from the expedition, Messenger and followers had camped at a place near Medina. Ayisha who was engaged in searching for her missed ornament failed to accompany the group which left the place. Safwan who was appointed for inspecting the leftovers found Ayisha alone at the place where they camped. So by saying: “Indeed we are from Lord and indeed we are returning unto Him”, he told Ayisha to get on the camel and he started to Medina leading on foot. On reaching Medina, hypocrites under the leadership of Abdullah-Ibinu-Ubbay started to spread gossip about Safwan and Ayisha.

Today, the Arabic Quran reading Fujjar who hide and reject Adhikr are worse than the hypocrites who were among the Messenger’s followers at Medina. They are the liars who have an evil concept about the Lord as told in verse 48: 6. See explanation 4: 111-112; 6: 59 and 19: 28-29.
